Oh, Cindy, that is a wonderful find. I’ve refinished a lot of furniture over the years. Definitely strip the drawer pulls. The paint will slide right off the metal. It doesn’t look to me like there is a whole lot of paint on this piece. It also looks like there is varnish underneath the paint. That could make it very easy to take it back to bare wood if you are so inclined. If you do decide to strip the paint off, check wether or not the paint has lead in it. You can get test strips to do that. If you do paint, you’ll want to make sure the paint you use is compatible with the paint that is on it. Sometimes acrylics don’t play well with oil paints.
I do hope you’ll share with us the future of this piece. It really is just lovely and has so much potential to be beautiful again.
