Hello!

All it took was the power of suggestion.  Well it may have been a bit more than that – we had been hearing all about Jamestown, the first permanent English Colony, for weeks.   My 4th grader’s class had been studying Jamestown in-depth as part of their Virginia history unit.  We love trips down to this part of Virginia (posts here, here and here) so we decided to head south and go for the weekend.  With Thanksgiving coming up this week, I thought it might be nice share pictures from the land discovered in 1607, 13 years before the pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts.

 The English colonists made the 4 1/2-month transatlantic voyage on 3 ships.  Here is a re-creation of the Susan Constant.

We love to pick up lunch for a picnic at the Cheese Shop in Merchant Square.  This sweet Westie sure completes the picture.

“Like a kid in a candy shop!”   No trip is complete without stopping at Wythe’s.

 We were fortunate that there happened to be Revolutionary War reenactments taking place throughout downtown Williamsburg

Who needs digital devices when there are old-fashioned wooden toys to play with!
