Here I am, happy to be back posting a little update.  I thought I’d share a little of the happenings around here from the past week.  School is out for summer in our house!

On the last day of school, I volunteered to help in my 2nd grader’s End of the Year party…it was a bug theme.  The cupcakes were so easy, I’m sure you’ve seen this idea around somewhere if you have little ones.  I don’t know what it is, but kids just love gummi worms.  My son had to memorize and recite a new poem every month in his reading class this past year.  As an incentive, the students could earn a gummi worm if they recited their poem before the last day of the month.  This little motivator really worked!

One of the Moms owns a paint-your-own pottery shop and she brought in a great project. Each of the children signed their names on a plate as a special keepsake of their classmates.

Lacrosse season has come to an end as well.  What a short season compared to baseball!  The coach had a pool party at his house to celebrate.

The camps that we signed up for do not start for a few weeks so we paid a visit to our pool (we can now walk to it!) and also broke out with the kiddie pool in my parent’s back yard.   A little bit of water is all the boys need to have some fun.

I squeezed in some time to do one of my favorite things….yes, it involved beads and a flea market.  The DC Big Flea came to the Expo Center again (it’s really just full of antique vendors).  Believe it or not the boys really enjoy going…all except my oldest son.  He just cannot get in to it and it is pure torture for him.  My 7 year old could go for hours searching for treasures, just like me.  He found an old crucifix that was broken, but he was drawn to it and wanted to bring it home.  I found some beautiful, old things.

Can you believe ladies would wear these screw-on style earrings?   If you look closely, one side of the earring actually comes to a point…so uncomfortable!  I know my Grandmother had some of these.  Maybe those clip ons were worse, you remember, the kind that made your ear lobes hurt as soon as you took them off!  This lone orphan earring was sparkly and so pretty though so I added it to my stash.

One of my favorite finds is this mother of pearl necklace.   The irregular shaped beads have a sort of patina that you would never find on a brand new set of beads.
