Hello, Sunshine!

Hello!

The sunshine this week has been a welcome visitor following the hurricane and a cold front, wouldn’t you say?   Nothing can top the warm weekend we had last – it was glorious and I wish it would stay. We took a quick trip to Ocean City to see about any water damage to our property and we were fortunate.  My heart goes out to the many who have had an extremely difficult time of it after Hurricane Sandy.

People seemed to flock to the boardwalk – to stroll and just take in the beautiful day.  I loved seeing 101 different dog breeds out there too. We were a bit surprised to see a huge section of the boardwalk in total disarray, but learned that it was not from the storm but planned maintenance. Apparently they replace boards every year after tourist season.  Just think of all the coins that must fall through the boardwalk cracks over the years.  The kids actually found a few pennies.

1/4 of Ocean City missing!

There was damage here and there on the boardwalk, most notably the fishing pier.  I saw photos of the pier during Hurricane Sandy news coverage – and was bummed to see that 100+ foot section missing with my own eyes.  I then thought of all of the damage to the boardwalk in Atlantic City.

Why walk on the boardwalk when we could get around on wheels?    My Dad’s taken the kids biking on the boardwalk, but we haven’t not so we decided to jump on some bikes – and not your average bikes!  I soon found out that those surreys are not so easy to peddle…. my poor husband seemed to do most of the work!  We had an hour and rode from the beginning of the boardwalk, to the very end and back.   We didn’t feel so bad eating Thrashers fries after that trek!

Gotta like the sign posted at the end of the boardwalk – reminds me of life:  if we’re fortunate enough, each day we get to turn around and do it again! 🙂

Great shots but sobering when you see the damage from Sandy. Love Candy Kitchen! Your boys get more handsome all the time!

So glad that your property wasn’t affected. Very sad to see the damage done to the boardwalk, but it can be replaced where as lives cannot. Looks like you and your family had a wonderful day. The surrey’s look like a hoot!

That looks like a great day! And what a fun destination – I’ve got a soft spot for boardwalks, even though I’ve only been to a few. It always seems like they’re a carnival right on the water!

It’s awe inspiring and heartbreaking all at once to see what Mother Nature can REALLY do. While you’re happy that you weren’t affected by it too much, your heart goes out to those people who were.

Although your family outing sounds like it was a very happy and enjoyable one and that’s what you have to focus on right now, especially with the holidays drawing near 🙂

Those bikes are so neat! I don’t know if I’d be able to use one though. LOL
