Happy Hearts Day, dear friends!
Ah, Valentine’s Day….already here so soon! Does this holiday bring back memories of handmade cards and boxes of chocolate? Last month while out and about antiquing, I saw many sweet old boxes of chocolate and couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures (knowing I would share them with you on Valentine’s Day). Who gave these boxes of chocolate originally? And isn’t it amazing that someone held on to them for so long? They must have been seriously yummy chocolates or from a very special suitor.
I’m not sure if any of these companies are in existence any longer….except this last one, Royal Crest Dairy. Royal Crest Dairy seems to be alive and well out in Colorado.
On Friday, my 6-year old son pulled a carefully-folded red construction paper card out of his backpack and asked me if he could give me his card early. It was clear he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. He was so proud that his handprint cut-outs inside the card made the shape of a heart. Underneath the handprints I found a picture of him taken from picture day back in the Fall (oh his teacher is so clever and I’ll have to thank her for this!). These are those little things that melt my heart.

Oh Cindy, his card really touched me. What a sweet little boy!
I want that little blue box of “Cottage” chocolates!!! My Dad lives in California and sends us “See’s” candy 2 pounds of nuts and chews …… *The…best…candy…ever*!!! I have the boys small boxes hidden away until after school ( can you say sugar buzz???).

We’re big See’s chocolates fans as well…ever since we lived in Monterey, CA. I seek them out every year when they come to town just for the holidays. Each year I get my boys a holiday Pez for their collections….this time I found cupid Pez dispensers!

Those must have been special boxes of chocolates! I am partial to Moonstruck truffles. We have a little shop in town called Sugar Cubed (Temptation to the 3rd Power) that sells the truffles. I bought a few to send to some special people and one for myself! I love that card. So filled with love from that sweet boy. Thank you for sharing! Enjoy the day!

What a wonderful card – What a wonderful teacher! I love when little boys get excited to give their Mom something sweet! I have to learn where you like to antique for those beautiful tins. I live in Northern VA too.. Happy Heart Day!

You’re right–Royal Crest Dairy is still in Colorado and they deliver milk to homes in glass bottles. Hard to believe there’s a company that still does that.
I’m not sure I can add anything to the chocolate discussion . . . I love See’s, too (they finally opened one near us in Colorado) and I had chocolates from Moonstruck once (probably the tiniest chocolate shop I ever visited). And of course, I like making my own chocolates, too.
I always wonder the same questions when it comes to antiquing-It’s wonderful to speculate on the story of certain objects 🙂
